|UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT: 11 October 2007
Dear Friends and Members of IAPC
We have just been informed that the President of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has agreed to officially open our Bali conference next month.
At a meeting today with Pri Sulisto and Robert Murdoch, Co-Chairman of the Bali Conference Committee the President said it was a pleasure to accept the invitation from the IAPC Board and that he would also encourage other political leaders and members from the country to also attend.
This is the first time in the 40 year history of the IAPC that a sitting Head of State will open the annual conference.
It is with great pride and humility that I welcome President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the 40th annual conference of the International Association of Political Consultants.
To have the popularly elected President attend and open our conference is a great honor for IAPC. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is the freely elected leader of the world's third largest democracy. He and his people have demonstrated to the world that Islam and democracy can flourish.
I am proud that the International Association of Political Consultants has chosen to gather in this, one of the most important democracies in the world, to listen, learn and take the lessons of Indonesia to our home countries. In a world that is too often divided by misunderstanding it is my hope that we political consultants will learn how to close the gaps that divide us.
Mr. President, I thank you for agreeing to meet with the members of our association. You honor us and provide an inspiration to those involved in political decision making around the world.
